- Longitude: geographic coordinate that specifies the east-west position of a point on the Earth's surface
- Prime Meridian: passes through Greenwich, England; 0º Longitude
- Facts about Longitude:
• Known as meridians
• Run in a north-south direction
• Measure east-west
• Farthest apart at Equator
• Halves of great circles
- Time Zones: A region of the globe that observes a uniform standard time for legal, commercial, & social purposes.
• Each 15º band of longitude is assigned to a standard time zone
- Coordinated Universal Time (UTC): Primary time standard by which the world regulates clocks and Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) is often used as a synonym for UTC and GMT predates UTC by nearly 300 years
